Sadly, adieu Fillmore Street

Bittersweet closed our Fillmore street store in San Francisco today. Unfortunately, with our lease term up and negotiations coming to a rather abrupt end, we just couldn't sustain the 30% rise in rent the landlord was looking for.

All the very best to our loyal San Francisco friends, and sincere apologies for the sudden disappearance :-) We hope to see you in the east bay soon, and watch this space for some exciting news about our Origins chocolate bars, as well as further Bittersweet location developments in the near future!

Boo :( I'll have to find another hang-out cafe now. Thanks for the fun times.

I own a coffee shop in the city. Yet, I always send people to Bittersweet on Fillmore to try their Mocha. I myself just visited there on Tuesday and enjoyed one. I wish you the best in a more hospitable area. Cheers

oh no! that's so sad. I love Bittersweet.

Thankfully, I'm a short walk from the Rockridge location. Love that its open at 8am. I have to try to be good and only go 2 times a week or so, or my belly & budget would be shot!

I was DEVASTATED today when I showed up at Bittersweet and saw the whole place empty...with it's sign swaying in the wind. I really truly deeply madly loved this place! The people that worked there were ALWAYS so nice and friendly. I now do not have any reason to go hang on Fillmore...Rockridge, here I come ;)

i am very sad to see bittersweet leave. who is asking for a 30% increase in lease these days. now this landlord took away a real gem in our street. bittersweet has been our fav place to go for a hot chocolate on cold days and nights.

I was a regular customer at the Bittersweet on Fillmore, and I am so sad to see it go!

I just wanted to say thank you to all of the smiling faces that greeted us at our favorite place for hot drinks, coffees, & sweets!

You will be missed!

xo,

I hope the landlord doesn't get any replacement for the location! 30% increase is stupid, even for San Francisco. Grr...

I hope you can come back to the Fillmore area! It's the best neighborhood for cafes and I was always there sketching and drinking your delicious Chocolate Chai... I still get super sad every time I walk by the empty store :(

ACK! I live in Santa Cruz County, but always carved out time for a pilgrimage to Bittersweet on my too-infrequent SF trips. I wonder if rent would be cheaper in the Peninsula or South Bay (hint, hint, begging hint). It's more complicated for people down here to navigate the East Bay (fewer public transit connections), but now I'm tempted to figure it out just so I can get my fix. Sigh. Anyway, I'm so sorry!

So sad! Bittersweet was the only reason I ever went to that part of Fillmore Street! Has the landlord noticed all the other empty store fronts on Fillmore? Good luck leasing that space...

Is it true you just closed Danville, too? Please tell me you're just relocating!
